The visitor to Beth Immanuel will notice lots of hats. Many of the men wear a traditional yarmulke. Others wear some type of hat.
Others don't. Many of the women keep their hair covered under a hat or scarf. Others don't.
The contentious question of head coverings is addressed in 1 Corinthians 11:1-6. Several years ago, First Fruits of Zion asked me to write a position paper explaining why many of us in Messianic Judaism keep a lid of some type on our heads. I recently presented the content of this paper to the Saturday afternoon women's Beit Midrash(Hebrew) Literally "study, searching"; a type of Jewish commentary that draws connections between passages of Scripture to derive lessons and laws, often through the use of parables and legends. at Beth Immanuel.
The paper, as yet unpublished, was attached to this post, but it no longer is. First Fruits of Zion is going to publish it in their new periodical "Messiah Journal," so to get the article, you will have to get the journal. Visit www.ffoz.org to subscribe.
UPDATE: FFOZ has published this article in "Messiah Journal" (Issue 100, Spring 2009).

Building off past scholarship, this essay is the best and most practical explanation of this topic I have ever read.
