Messianic Passover Teachings and Events

The holiday we usually refer to as "Passover," the Torah refers to as "Chag Ha-Matzot," the Festival of Unleavened Bread. A holiday celebrating the exodus from Egypt makes sense, but how did flatbread end up stealing all the attention? Learn the deep symbolism of matzah and its leavened couterpart, chametz, as we prepare for the Passover holiday.

If we are living in the birth pangs of the Messiah, when will the Messiah arrive? A look at the story of the exodus from Egypt provides a clue and insights into salvation and redemption. 

On the last day of Passover we, remember the crossing of the Red Sea and celebrate the Meal of Messiah, a celebration of Messiah, his resurrection, and our hope in the coming kingdom. How long were the children of Israel in Egypt? Was it 430years? If so, how do we account for 430 years over only three generations? In Galatians 3, Paul employs a rabbinic tradition about the duration of Israel's sojourn in Egypt, interprets the "seed of Abraham" as a reference to Messiah, and compares the Torah to a competing inheritance document.

The plagues on Egypt foreshadow a future coming time of tribulation when God will judge the whole earth, as he once judged Egypt. This time, judgment comes on all the nations, as God redeems his people from the nations. Just as the redemption from Egypt began with plagues, judgments, signs and wonders on the earth, likewise, the final redemption will be prefaced by the same types of omens, calamities, and judgments, which Christians refer to as “the tribulation” and Jews refer to as the “Birth Pains of Messiah,” leading up to the conflict of Armageddon, the great war of Gog and Magog.

The story of the Last Supper compared with the traditional elements of the Seder meal as reported in the Mishnah help us recreate the story of Yeshua's last meal with his disciples before he suffered.
