Rosh Chodesh Elul 5778

Chodesh Tov!

The two days of Rosh Chodesh Elul begins Friday night, Aug 10 and conclude at sunset Sunday August 12. From Rosh Chodesh Elul until Yom Kippur, we concentrate on our Master's teachings regarding repentance, charity, and prayer in anticipation of the coming judgment. During these forty days, sound the shofar daily as a reminder to repent. We make every effort to rectify mistakes and sins committed over the last twelve months in preparation for the High Holidays. This year, at Beth Immanuel, we are also focusing on the mitzvah of taking care of one’s physical health. This year the forty-days are going to be forty days of improving our health and getting in better physical shape. Listen to this new teaching about the forty days and “The Power of Fasting,” part of a new series on the subject of getting physically and spiritually fit.

Toby Janicki Associate Pastor

In late July, we welcomed Toby Janicki to the pastoral team at Beth Immanuel. Pastor Janicki works for First Fruits of Zion as a teacher and presenter. He is the host of the FFOZ television show, A Promise of What is to Come and the author of the Didache commentary titled The Way of Life.Toby will share the teaching load at Beth Immanuel and continue in his leadership of the youth and young adults programming. He will also be keeping our website and Facebook page active and up to date.

Sparks of Messiah

The teachers from our Beth Immanuel Torah School are launching an online version for distance learning. Sparks of Messiah Online Torah School is a school for Messianic Jews and Gentiles. Leveraging the power of technology and the latest teaching strategies, the school provides a quality Torah education that will nurture and grow the spark of discipleship in every young follower of Yeshua. Learn more about this exciting new venture at www.sparksofmessiah.com. Help get this new venture going by spreading the word to Messianic families with children. The new Sparks of Messiah school does not replace our regular Beth Immanuel Torah School. Beth Immanuel Torah School starts in September.

New Music from Troy Mitchell

Troy Mitchell has released a brand new single entitled "Vesamachta." You can listen to the song on CDBaby and iTunes. By purchasing the song, you are also helping fund Troy's new album. He's going to be heading back into the studio soon to begin the process. For more updates give him a like on his Facebook page.

Camp Tzadi

Beth Immanuel supplied a lot of the teachers, counselors, and campers for the FFOZ 12-21 Camp Tzadi program this year at Wisconsin Dells. The camp began on August 1 and concludes August 14. Learn about Camp Tzadi at the 12-21 website.

On August 26, we will welcome the new immersees with a special ceremony at Minchah (6:00 PM) and a special Sunday night meal at 7:00PM. Rosh HaShannah and the Binding of Isaac

Time to hear the shofar again. Visit Beth Immanuel this year for the two-day festival of Rosh Hashanah, September 9-11. Over the two days of Rosh Hashanah, we will take an in-depth look at the story of the binding of Isaac (Genesis 21-22) with special attention and focus on how the sacrifice of Isaac foreshadows and relates to the death Yeshua. Out of town guests are welcome. Contact us ahead of time to let us know that you are coming so that we can coordinate meals and hosting.

Sukkah City

We are opening our parking lot up for Sukkah City again this Sukkot, Sept 23-Oct 2 and you are invited. We want to squeeze in as many Sukkah’s as we can and set a new Hudson record. Come join the fun. Put up your Sukkah and become a temporary resident of beautiful, historic Hudson, WI. We’ll have synagogue services every day of the festival, lots of fun including a Sukkah contest, a Youth and Young Adults Pizza in the Hut night, a Torah Club Sukkah, lots of lulav waving, and on Hoshana Rabbah, we’ll have a cook out, a carnival, and a drum jam. Then things will get amped up for Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.

Torah Club at Beth Immanuel

This fall Torah Club goes live, featuring contributions from three of the teachers at Beth Immanuel. Aaron Eby, Toby Janicki, and D. T. Lancaster will be recording some of the weekly teachings to be featured in the new Parshah Connections videos which will be viewed by active Torah Clubs. In addition, several Beth Immanuel members will be leading weekly Torah Clubs in the vicinity and Twin Cities area. Learn more about the new Torah Club launch at www.torahclub.org.

Air Conditioning Update

It says in the Zohar in Parashat Pinchas, “Torah requires coolness.” That is to say that the study of Torah should be done, when possible, in comfortable temperatures. With God’s help, we have $25,000 toward the target of $55,000 required for the installation of air conditioning. Although we fell far short of our initial fundraising goal of air conditioning the entire building, we are within just a few thousand dollars of being able to afford to install the air conditioning in the Sanctuary. We’ve had some miserably hot Shabbat services this summer, and we are looking forward to a climate-controlled experience. You can still participate in this cool project and join the 55 Aleph Club by donating to $1,000.00 to Beth Immanuel.
